Wildlife officials: Leave fawns alone
With the official start of summer, white-tailed deer fawns begin to appear in Mississippi. Each year human encounters with these newborn deer occur and questions arise as to the wellbeing of the fawn.
“Each summer we answer phone calls and questions about fawns that are found, picked up, or wandering in people’s yards”, said Chad Dacus, Deer Program Coordinator for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks. “We tell people the same thing year after year: don’t pick up the fawns and leave them alone.”
