Citizen recalls, compares floods of 1937, 2011
The events of last spring’s great flood impacted Tunica County like nothing seen in recent history.
More than 350 residents were displaced, many forever, from the Tunica Cut-off; and all nine of Tunica’s casinos were shut down for weeks as near-record waters encroached on them, then receded, leaving grounds and maintenance crews scrambling to clean up the mess left behind by the out-of-control river.
While these events touched the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of Tunica residents in some way, shape or form, it was my father to whom I related as the river made its assault on the land beyond the levee.
