New crop sprouts in county
A steep shift in the price of peanuts over the past year has prompted several Delta growers to include the protein-packed legume in the mix of crops they planted this spring.
And, at least a few Tunica County growers are among those looking for a payout from the crop.
According to Anthony Bland, county agent with the Mississippi State Agricultural Extension Service in Tunica, three or four local growers are among those planting peanuts on land traditionally reserved for cotton.
