Drought brings emergency declaration
Despite some substantial rainfall that fell over the weekend, Tunica County remains under emergency drought status and is among several North Mississippi counties designated as primary natural disaster areas by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
On Monday, U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran issued a statement noting that the drought conditions were serious and deserved careful attention and monitoring by local, state and federal agencies.
