Bringing the world to Tunica
Africa and England are more than just points on a globe or sections in a text book for Tunica Elementary School teachers Carrie Roberts and Lauren Todd. In fact, they represent a unique educational opportunity that both are using as they lead classes of tomorrow’s global leaders.
Roberts explains that before taking a job teaching kindergarten at Tunica Elementary, she spent two months teaching four and five year olds in Ghana, Africa. The experience came through a study abroad program offered through St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, where she was pursuing a degree in education.
Roberts said she was involved in several service organizations in college and traveled to Africa the first time through them. When opportunity knocked again, she knew she could not pass it by.
