Starting in May, the Tunica Airport will begin using a new fuel hydrant system that will give the facility a “green” designation.
Director Cliff Nash said this week that the hydrant system replaces mobile units that are currently in use. The new system will also save about $43,000 per year, he added.
This change is one of several improvements that are being considered at the facility. Airport officials traveled to Washington recently to seek approval to use $1.5 million in federal Airport Improvement Program funds toward construction of a new 20,000 square foot hangar. Nash said the current hangar is at capacity, with Covington Aircraft operating from it and with 15 private aircraft now based here, including two Lear 45 jets that are owned by Dillard’s. Dillard’s has expressed interest in basing a larger aircraft here, but that is on hold until more hangar space becomes available, Nash said.
