AirTran lands in Tunica
Just as the final remarks were being offered, the first AirTran Boeing 717 from Atlanta touched down on the runway at the Tunica Airport to a round of cheers and applause.
On May 6, Tunica officially welcomed the commercial carrier and its passengers with a reception under the canopy at Tunica Airport. Just under 200 guests from Atlanta were greeted with hugs, handshakes, beads and high fives as they made their way from the plane to Tunica Air Center.
And with their arrival came the start of scheduled service. Flights between Tunica and Atlanta are now available Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays and Mondays.
Tunica Convention and Visitors Bureau President and CEO Webster Franklin said the success of any destination depends on reliable transportation. The relationship with AirTran will “open the world to Tunica, Miss.”
