Town Board votes to enact garbage fee
After months of discussion on ways to increase revenue, town officials unanimously voted to enact a monthly garbage fee. It will appear on town water bills starting July 1.
At a meeting of the Board of Aldermen on May 6, Mayor Chuck Cariker recommended that the town continue twice a week garbage pick up for a rate of $10 per month. Each additional can will cost $5. Rates are the same for commercial customers as for residents.
According to town officials, the rate change will involve enacting a town ordinance. A public hearing will be set following the board’s next meeting on May 20.
