MS health officials confirm first case of Chikungunya virus
The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) is confirming its first case of chikungunya virus in a Mississippi resident who recently returned from Haiti. Several other potential cases are currently under investigation.
A mosquito-borne illness traditionally found in Africa and Asia, chikungunya virus has recently appeared in the Caribbean, and could possibly infect Mississippians who travel there.
