Tunica police and Sheriff’s deputies marked National Police Week, May 9-15, with the annual Police Memorial Program on May 14 in downtown Tunica. Peace Officers Memorial Day was officially designated in 1962; since then, thousands of law enforcement officers have honored and remembered those that paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. At this year’s program, special recognition was offered to the family of Deputy Trenda Watts of Tunica, who though not killed in the line of duty, died last year in an automobile accident.
