Minister's Moment: Singing a New Song
Singing a New Song
Psalm 96
“O sing unto the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! Sing to the Lord, bless his name.”
So begins Psalm 96. There are seventy other entries listed in Strong’s Complete Concordance for the words sing, singer, singeth, and singing in the Psalms alone. There are many more throughout the rest of the Bible. Many of them are invitations (commands, really) for God’s people (that’s us!) to sing to God or to sing of God’s blessings, or providence, or mercy.
One might think, with all these references to singing, that Scripture considers it an important means of praising God—and that is correct. Singing is an activity that all those who worship God (the whole earth, no less!) are called upon to engage in.
