Marker set to honor Willie Lee Brown
A grave marker honoring blues icon Willie Lee Brown was set in place on Feb. 22 in the Good Shepherd Church Cemetery in Tunica.
Mr. Brown, born August 6, 1900 in Clarksdale, Miss., was considered to be a pioneer in blues music.
He spent much of his career as a sideman backing such blues legends as Charley Patton and Son House. He, along with legend Robert Johnson, appeared on many songs cut by Mr. Patton between 1929 and 1934. Brown has three existing solo cuts, “M & O Blues” and “Future Blues,” as well as his final solo performance “Make Me a Pallet on the Floor.”
